On January 4th, the wildlife group went to Engikaret Lark Plains where we saw over 50 species of birds including the endemic Spike-Heeled Lark. We also spotted a variety of different mammals including gazelle, wildebeest and herds of zebras. The photography group started the day with a Swahili lesson and then visited the Olasiti Orphanage Center. We brought art supplies and worked on crafts with the children, as well as practiced our cartwheels with them. In the afternoon we headed to Shanga, a glass recycling company. Shanga provides deaf, blind and disabled Tanzanians with employment opportunities that utilize their artistic talents. They create recycled jewelry, mosaics, lanterns and other crafts to benefit their community.
On January 5th, both groups explored Arusha National Park with 8 friends from the Olisiti Orphanage Center. We found giraffes, hippos, flamingos, primates, bushbuck, a water buffalo and even more. In the distance, Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro provided us with beautiful landscape photography opportunities.
